Jesus Rocks: Enemies...Friends

Hang on as we continue traveling through the first chapters of Colossians. Today, our Jesus Rocks series lands us on amazing verses that reveal Jesus' true identity! Take the time to read the verses below and see if you don't come to the same conclusion:

VS 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. VS 16 For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. VS 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. VS 18 And He is the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning and the firstborn among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. VS 19 For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, VS 20 and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.

See what I mean? I would go so far as to say: When it comes to highlighting Jesus' true identity, the verses above are to the letters and epistles of the New Testament (22 of them) what the Mount of Transfiguration is to the Gospels (4 of them)! Allow me to explain!

When Jesus walked on this green earth and handpicked twelve disciples, Jesus' humanity was rarely in question. His disciples knew Jesus "put on sandals just like them - one foot at a time." But the disciples struggled with Jesus' deity; they weren't convinced He was truly God. Therefore, God the Father, provided the perfect situation for the three "special disciples" to experience the wonder of Jesus' true identity. It's all recorded in Matthew 17 (see also Mark 9 & Luke 9). Jesus took Peter, James and John high up a mountain and when there God the Father "transfigured" His Son. According to the Scripture "Jesus' face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light" (Matthew 17:2).

The immediate reaction of the disciples was to worship! This is a good and appropriate response. But even more, Peter, James and John's lives were never the same. How could they be?

Just like the Mount of Transfiguration changed the lives of Peter, James and John, this scripture passage in Colossians can change you, if you allow the Holy Spirit to do so. Anyone here interested in a change? If so, you've come to the right place this morning.

On the Victory Side,

Dave
